CEU Guidelines
( from Design Line )
GOALS AND OBJECTIVES
The member of AIBD implemented the Continuing Education Unit program to add credibility to all members in the organization, and to inform the general public, related industry professionals, affiliate associations and the legislative community that our members are dedicated to design excellence.
In the evolving world of building design, ongoing education is necessary to keep abreast of changing codes, new structural requirements, energy efficient building products and much more.
FULFILLMENT, CONDITIONS &SUGGESTIONS
AIBD's CEU policy requires all professional members, certified or not, to obtain 8 CEU Credits in one-year period. In the highly technical field of building design, this requires spending only eight hours per year -that's 40 minutes per month- to maintain your professional knowledge and expertise.
CEUs can be obtained simply by attending any educational activity that deals in
some way with our profession. You can easily attain eight or more CEUs by attending just one annual national convention. CEUs can be obtained in many different ways which are clearly outlined in the CEU policy as follows:
1. 1 CEU Credit for each contact hour (1 hour minimum) and shall include:
(a) Classroom credit from accredited universities, colleges, vocational, or technical training institutions (or equivalent course), in courses relating to architecture, design, engineering, business, or related skills;
(b) Educational, building codes or self-improvement seminars and workshops;
(c) AIBD sanctioned events or AIA approved continuing education courses.
2. 3 CEU Credit for first year, and service on Planning Commissions, Local Government, Architectural/Design Control Committees, etc.
3. 3 CEU Credit for writing and publishing in any media of an article related to the profession of building design.
4. 3 CEU Credit for developing and presenting a sanctioned educational workshop seminar.
5. 1 CEU Credit per year for acceptable entry to any AIBD nationally sanctioned design competition regardless for the number of entries submitted.
6. 2 CEUs for approved architectural tours or documented architectural travels. Adequate documentation must be submitted for review and evaluation.
7. 2 CEUs for participation in either design or construction of charitable projects i.e. Habitat for Humanity. It is the responsibility of each professional member to submit and validate accumulated CEUs for the previous year, and also keep track of CEUs submitted to national.
Use a standard CEU Credit Form to report any educational activity in which you participate that meets the standards of the policy. This form can also be used to petition the Committee to ask for the CEUs for any event/activity you think will qualify as educational.
